The monotype is a one-of-a-kind work on paper. It is a painterly form of printmaking requiring ink, a surface on which to print, paper and a press. The artist uses a variety of tools to apply the ink and sometimes adds collage, transfers, fabric and other materials.

Last weekend I volunteered at the monoprint marathon. I was helping a few artists during their busy printing day at the KALA studios. And now I have an opportunity to make some monoprints and donate one to the ICA show.

Don’t miss this year’s annual Monotype Marathon at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) – a print exhibition and fundraising auction that features the work of the best printmakers in the Bay Area (and beyond the Bay Area).
